Available for Bookings:

  • Book the entire facility - the Ōtamatea/Otamita, Waimeha/Waimea and Waikākahi/Waikaka rooms. The Ōtamatea and Waimeha rooms are separated by a large bi-fold door, while the Waimeha and Waikākahi rooms are separated by a double door.

  • This room:
    • Is the largest of the three community rooms
    • Has a stage and overhead projector
    • Has maximum capacity of 180, unfurnished. However, capacity varies depending on the venue layout
    • Has kitchenette access

Ōtamatea, or ‘the place of Tamatea’, is the Otamita Stream's original spelling, which flows easterly from the Hokonui Hills into the Mataura River. Ōtamatea was named after Tamatea, the famous exploring ancestor who was captain of the Takitimu waka that capsized at Te Waewae Bay and formed the Takitimu Mountains. This is the largest room. It can be configured for meetings or presentations, and is fitted out with the latest audio-visual technology. The kitchenette is directly accessible from this room for all meeting spaces.

  • This room:
    • Is the second largest room
    • Has a large television available
    • Has a maximum capacity of 80, unfurnished. However, capacity varies depending on the venue layout.
    • Has kitchenette access

Waimeha is the original spelling for the Waimea Stream, which flows into the Mataura River north of Gore. Waimeha was named after Waimemeha (the Waimeamea River) at Te Waewae Bay, where the Takitimu waka capsized. This room features large picture windows facing Ardwick Street, which means it's flooded with natural light.

  • This room:
    • Is the smallest of the three community rooms
    • Has a large television available
    • Has a table with maximum seating for 12 people permanently set up
    • Does NOT have kitchenette access
    • Is only available during library hours unless the hirer also books the Waimea room, or the entire complex

Waikākahi is the original spelling for the Waikaka Stream, which flows into the Mataura River just south of Gore. Waikākahi is the Māori name for the New Zealand freshwater mussel (Echyridella menziesii), indicating the abundance of kai within the area.
  • Book both the Ōtamatea/Otamita room and the Waimeha/Waimea room. These rooms can be used as one space by sliding open the large bi-fold doors.
  • Book both the Waimeha/Waimea and the Waikākahi/Waikaka meeting rooms. These rooms are connected by a double door and each has a 65" television.
